From the Italian cangiare, meaning "to change", cangiante is one of the four canonical painting techniques of the Italian High Renaissance painters.  Pigments were limited, and when shadows and highlights were needed, a painter would change color entirely to create the desired effect.  Michelangelo made masterful use of this technique on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, bringing an otherworldly brightness of color to the entire work.  As with most things in the artistic realm, the word and its application can serve as a metaphor in life.  When tools are limited or an approach does not elicit the desired effect, a creative change may be necessary.

Currently, four artists who are local to the Florida Keys are featured in the gallery.  Additional artists are joining soon, so please check back to see what's new.
